A Journey To Live Fully Awake {Online Book Study}

“There are some doors God opens, which are so aligned with our prayers and His will, we dare not shrink back in fear. Believing this is a God-thing!”

That was my response to Michele-Lyn when she invited me to join the WorldHelp Bloggers team. What came next was unexpected- an invitation to embark on {A Journey To Live Fully Awake}.

I stumbled onto the WorldHelp website and met Noel Brewer Yeatts (the VP of World Help) and the sweet little babes she helps rescue. I’ve often felt so powerless, unable to make a difference when I’m confronted with the staggering realization of the pain, hurt, and poverty in this world. Then I heard Noel share her heart.

When asked, “Why are you trying to help this one little boy? Do you know how many street children are on the streets of Brazil?”, Noel learned a lesson that changed the way she lived her life.

“He was right, I may not be able to help all the children in the world. But that was not was I was being asked to do. I believe God was putting one little boy in front of me and that was what I was being asked to do…make a difference for him. I could make a difference for this one person.”

Noel’s call to action doesn’t leave one feeling helpless. It doesn’t guilt us into action, and it doesn’t provoke an emotional response. Instead, it calls us to open our eyes, to awaken, and truly ‘see’ the heart of God.

I heard Noel’s father, Vernon Brewer (president of WorldHelp), once say, “Impact the world by fighting the battles that are on His heart.”

Awake, A Call To Fight God’s Battles

I got my hands on Noel’s book, Awake, and my excuses for not being able to make a difference were no longer valid. I had a glimpse at God’s heart through His word and the stories Noel so vividly shares. This was a call to fight the battles that are on His heart.

I will share a bit more about the book and the stories that captivated my heart this week. But for now, I want to extend an invitation to you.

  1. Love this post, your heart and this line…”This was a call to fight the battles that are on His heart.” Amen! Grateful for you!

    • Michele-Lyn, I first heard those words from Vernon Brewer. I had to sit still and get them deep in my spirit…”God, what is on your heart?” Then comes the hard part. Sitting there long enough and quiet enough to hear.

  2. Hello Darlene! Beautiful post. I read Jen’s post today and purchased the book. Your words add to my excitement to begin reading and do my best to follow the study guide and contribute on the FB page. It’s not the best timing for me so I may only be able to peek in periodically but I knew this was a book God was calling me to read. God bless you for your serving heart.

    • Beth, I’m so glad you purchased it. I was impacted within the first pages. There’s so much to share. I’m glad the online study group will give us a space to do so. Can’t wait to get into it further there. Even if it’s in-between peeks 😉
