I just love today’s reading, “Confronting Laziness“. Why? Because, when it comes to the things that hinder my growth, I love confrontation. I love to look at these things head on and I like to tell them, “You will no longer come along for a free ride. You will not hold me back. You will not hinder me. You will not be the cause of my destruction. You are not welcome here!!”

Yes, I love that part of it. Totally!

The part that’s a bit harder is actually following through with that confrontation. Making the necessary changes can sometimes seem overwhelming, impossible even. I know, friend. I understand. I’ve been there.

But what if I tell you that things don’t have to be this way?

What if I told you that God cares about this part of your life? Don’t believe me?

Simply open up the Bible and do a search on laziness. You will soon find out just how destructive laziness really is:

The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing;
But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich, (Proverbs 13:4).

A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich, (Proverbs 10:4).

But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever, (1 Timothy 5:8).

Walk with me. Let’s see how laziness affects our lives.

Consequences of laziness

  • wastes precious time, talent, and even energy
  • unfinished or never started projects hang over your head
  • feelings of shame and inadequacies
  • leads to poverty
  • it’s sin, sin always leads to destruction
  • missed blessings
  • brings financial loss and waste
  • causes us to go hungry

Now get excited, because you can overcome laziness!

Overcoming Laziness

You can do this! I’m cheering you on!

So go ahead, make the necessary changes, and come back, leave me a comment telling me all about it. I want to know how living life diligently has changed your life!

Today’s Challenge (from 31 Days To Clean)

Mary Challenge:  Every time you find yourself saying, “I will do that later,” I want you to stop and pray, asking god to give you a spirit of diligence. Then, with an obedient heart, go to work. If (and when) you fail, allow His grace to lift you up and begin again. I know you can do it!

Martha Challenge:  Today’s reading didn’t have a Martha Challenge, so let me add one for you. Look up some verses on laziness and diligence. Write them out on index cards and put them where you can read them. Remind yourself of what God’s word has to say, and watch as the Holy Spirit begins to work in your life.

UPDATE: Correction, Martha Challenge is available for Day 9, (I flew through and missed it on my Kindle): Kitchen- sweep, vacuum, and mop floors. Add some fresh flowers to brighten your day.
