Sometimes There’s A Lot To Do

Sometimes the days are filled with reading and writing,

With breakfasts, lunches, and dinners around the dining room table-

Food crumbs hiding beneath, waiting to be swept.

There are dishes to be washed, and piles of laundry, which never seem to vanish.

There are books to be read, homework to be looked over, and stories to be told-

There’s play dough waiting to be opened, dice waiting to be tossed.

Words to be written, emails awaiting an answer, voicemail waiting for a response-

People needing encouragement, souls searching for answers-

All of it, shouting for my attention.

Other Times There Is Silence

And then there are days where all the shouting is silenced. All that’s left is a piercing quietness.

I’m having one of those days today.

Meditate On The Works Of The Lord

And so, as I sit here I will meditate, not on the things I am unable to change, but on the One who’s proven to be Faithful. Though I cannot see His footprints, He is here. Of this, I am certain!

He is present.

I find rest and peace knowing He is at work in my situation.

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your miracles of long ago. I will mediate on all Your works and consider all Your mighty deeds… You are the God who performs miracles; You display Your power among the peoples… Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, through your footprints were not seen.

(excepts from Psalm 77).

Today’s Challenge:

  • Are there areas in your marriage and parenting that remain quiet? Are you still waiting to hear God’s direction? List them.
  • Does Scripture offer any words of advice and direction for these areas?
  • List the ways God has previously shown His faithfulness in your marriage/ with your children.
  • Can you believe God, and hope in Him, even through the silence?

When it comes to family life, have you learned to meditate on the faithfulness and goodness of God even when you don’t have answers? Do you know how to build your faith by meditating on His good works?
