As we embarked on a new aspect of our {Live Life Fully Committed} Challenge, I found myself challenged in that particular area. As we prepared to jump into {Family Life}, my ‘family life’ was altered.

Out of nowhere, my son woke up Thursday morning with hip pain, unable to bear weight on his leg. Next thing I know, we’re going from doctor to doctor in trying to figure out what’s wrong.

By Saturday, we were admitted to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I know this place. It’s all too familiar

I’ve Been Here Before

I’ve been here before. And I’m not just talking about here, in this building. (You can read the bits and pieces of this journey, which I shared last July, {here}.)

I’ve been here, in this place inside.

It’s the place where the noise of doctors throwing medical terminology at you intersects with the enemy throwing lies at you.

It’s the place where physical exhaustion collides with spiritual brokenness.

It’s the place where our reality crashes into our faith.

It’s where we hang up our superhero capes, turning instead to real Super Hero.

I’ve been here before. I remember it well. I know what to do.

I Know What To do

{Living Life –with a heart- Fully Committed} to God means that when things in life get tough, we lean into Him.

We might not have the answers we are so desperately searching for, but we have the God of all the answers.

We might not have a solution to the problem at hand, but we serve the God with the solution.

We might be facing an impossible situation, but we serve the God of no impossibilities.

Today’s Challenge:

When it comes to family life, you will face challenges. Go ahead and write that one down. I’ll wait.

The question is, how will you deal with those challenges?

  • What challenges are you facing in your ‘family life’? List them on paper.
  • Are you trying to ‘fix’ what you assume to be broken? Are you playing the role of the “Fixer Upper”, a role intended only for the Holy Spirit.
  • When challenges arise, have you learned to assess the situation: Have you been here before? What didn’t work previously? What did work?
  • Can you maintain your position in spite of opposition?

It’s so easy to skip this part and jump into the “10 Days Of Family Fun” way of doing things. And there’s nothing wrong with family fun. I have an entire category devoted to it here on {In Pursuit}.

But reality is that when challenges come our way, we need to have more than a day of family fun to get through. We need to get to a place where we are confident the God we serve will show up. We need to get to a place where we put down deep roots into the soil of God’s word. There has to be depth in our faith.

Our talk and our actions must coincide. There has to be an authenticity in our faith.

Our 2 Chronicles 16:9 challenge tells us God is looking for hearts that are fully committed to Him, that He may strengthen them. I don’t know about you, but for my journey, I need some supernatural strength.

As I sit here on this not-so-comfortable makeshift bed/couch, I am living the challenge.

Imagine that!

Stuck between four walls, son attached to an IV, hip pain continues, family almost 2 hours away- I’m walking in my commitment.

I’m leaning hard on the Source. I’m waiting in expectancy and anticipation. I’m sitting here with heart and eyes wide open. I’m receiving the grace and strength promised me.

My friend, will you join me? {Living Life Fully Committed} is less about what you can do, and more about what He will do!

Dare to take the challenge. Dare to make 2013 a year like no other…
