The Hard Part {Getting Real}

LLFC LogoThis year, I asked you to join me on a challenge to {Live Life –with a heart- Fully Committed (to God)}. It’s 2 Chronicles 16:9 (2C16:9) kind of living; we chase hard after God and He strengthens us for the task at hand.

See, I know what it’s like to work hard and get nowhere. I know what it’s like to press and push, to do and expect- only to find myself coming up short and empty-handed.

2C16:9 kind of living is different, though. It’s not about striving and doing. It’s not about checking off our to-do list and patting ourselves on the back for a job well done. Instead, it’s about recognizing our weaknesses and limitations. It’s about taking a close look at our shortcomings, at our sin, and standing before the throne of grace. It’s about getting real.

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

We think living life fully committed is hard. But that’s the easy part because anything good in us comes from Him anyway (Hebrews 13:21). Like streams of water, we do not steer our course, He pursues us and tells our hearts which way to go (Proverbs 21:1).

Here Is The Hard Part

The hard part is finding the courage to say, “I don’t have it right, Lord. I’ve messed up and I keep messing it up… I don’t have the answer. I don’t have the solution. I don’t have the strength.”

The hard part is finding the nerve to come to Him, in all honesty and sincerity of heart.

The hard part is turning our eyes from the help we can see, to the Help which is unseen.

The hard part is standing there before Him, bare and naked, admitting our frailty. We. Need. Him.

Here, Is Where His Strength Is Found

Here’s where we find His strength. It’s in the sweet, and very humbling, surrender. It’s the place where His love abounds, overflowing,  touching the depths of our deprived souls.

Here, living waters push through with such force that the dammed up places of our soul have no alternative but to relinquish control. Here our dry and parched land is watered. We’re refreshed.

Today’s Challenge:

Take time to get real with God. I know it’s hard to admit where we lack. I know it’s difficult to look at the ugly. But there are still areas that need to be addressed in His Presence. Until we do, we will be unable to live life with hearts fully committed to Him.

What is hindering your devotion to God?

What is taking precedence before Him?

What are the affections of your heart?

Don’t be afraid. He already knows.

It’s time to stop avoiding the place where mercy and grace come together to create something so beautiful and undeserving… God at work in our lives, in spite of our inabilities.

Will you dare? Will you come?

  1. Wow, I’ve had a very distractive week and I don’t like it. .. Lord I need you!

  2. Thanks for the challenge. It’s something that I’ll have to ponder awhile, but thinking & praying about it is the first step.
