Road Trip USA: First stop, The White House

Today’s guest post is from {School Days} The Collazo Family Journal.

It’s Thursday and I’m so excited that you decided to join me for our Road Trip USA adventure!! Previously I shared with you this awesome curriculum from Erica at Confessions of a Homeschooler. She has such an awesome site filled with so much information and resources. I encourage you to check it out.

Our Road Trip USA continued this week and our first stop was The White House. We had a great time touring The White House on their website. We took a look at all the different rooms, presidents, and much more. We then headed off to PaperToys.com where we found this FREE printable of a miniature sized White House. Jay had so much fun cutting it apart and building it piece by piece. He finished by gathering some fun facts about The White House.

Something interesting He likes to share:

The White House has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels in the Residence. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases,

and 3 elevators.

So there you have it. Our stop at The White House. We also took some pit stops to learn about the American Flag, the Statue of Liberty, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Veterans Memorial, and the U.S. Constitution. It was a jam packed week but Jay didn’t mind. He was having too much fun.

Oh yeah, and little sis’, well she sees her big brother learning and she wants to join in. This is her version of The White House… Yes, she prefers they give it a paint job. Color, color, color….that’s her idea of the perfect White House {laugh}.DSC_0388

So how about you? What ideas do you have for teaching your children geography and history? I’d love to hear from you!
