{6 Days To An Organized Home: Day 6, Bedrooms and Closets}

It is Day 6 of our {6 Days To An Organized Home} challenge. And you, my friend, have made it!!! I am so proud of you for tackling one of the most difficult projects in our homes. After today you are ready to take on 2012 and all it has for you!

It is our very last day of our Cleaning Challenge. However, I want you to know that if you have more than 2 bedrooms and you want to break this day’s challenge into two to three days, that’s alright! the point is that you are tackling your home and THAT alone is something to be excited about!

Let’s glimpse at this past week and see all we’ve accomplished thus far:

My Cleaning List:

So here we go with Day 5…


Master Bedroom:

  • Clear out items that belong in different rooms.
  • Fold and hang up clothes that need to be put away.
  • Toss dirty clothes in hamper.
  • Toss out broken clothing, items.
  • Put items in their proper homes.
  • Donate items you do not use or love.

Children’s Bedrooms:

  • Same as above.
  • Toss broken toys or toys with missing pieces.
  • Donate toys your child no longer uses.
  • Organize items by groups, preferably in clear bins/ baskets to help children learn to put toys away.
  • Labeling or taking pictures of items in their bins and baskets will also help children put toys away.

Walls and Windows:

  • Wipe down walls.
  • Wipe down baseboards.
  • Wash windows.
  • Wipe down window sills.
  • Wipe down blinds.
  • Wash curtains/ Replace.
  • Dust/Wipe Light Fixtures/ Ceiling Fans.

Dusting and Wiping:

  • Dust dressers and side tables.
  • Dust all decorating items including wall décor.
  • Clean mirrors and glass.
  • Put everything back in its proper place.


  • Dust/Wipe down Bed.
  • Vacuum between mattresses.
  • Replaces bedding.


  • Sweep floors.
  • Vacuum Carpet/Rugs (don’t forget under the bed)
  • Mop floors.


  • Toss out items you do not like, have not work in a year, does not fit, worn, ripped or stained.
  • Donate clothes in the above categories that are in good shape.
  • Store out of season items in plastic bins/ containers (wash first, put 2 dryer sheets in bins to keep fresh).
  • Empty closet including all items on floor.
  • Wipe down and vacuum.
  • Sort items as you hang by color, sleeve length, shirts, skirts, dresses, trousers, etc.
  • Line up shoes (use under bed storage, behind door storage or shoe racks).
  • Corral all your purses in a basket or if you have room put up a shelf to house them.
  • Use belt hooks for belts.
  • Use hooks for bags and totes.
  • For further organization check out closet systems online.


  • Empty drawers and wipe down.
  • Sort items by groups.
  • Use organizing baskets for items like socks and lingerie to help eliminate clutter.
  • Fold all clothes and fill up drawers by groups (shirts, pajamas, pants, etc.).

Alright so there you have it. The Bedrooms and Closets cleaning and organizing list has been broken down as best as I could. Now it’s your turn to go out there and get to work! I know it seems like an overwhelming task, that’s why I’ve broken it down into sections. Take out your pencil if you have to then start checking off as you go. Put on some jams in the background (pray for strength, {smile}) and then get to work.
